LAWRENCEVILLE -- Mount Carmel High School and Indiana University's all-time leading scorer Tyra Buss will returning back to the area to host a summer skills clinic on July 27.
The clinic follows one she had just over a month ago in Bloomington, Ind., as she connects to the aspiring basketball youth in communities she's touched.
Buss, a two-time recipient of the prestigious Miss Illinois Basketball Award (2013, 2014), holds the Illinois High School girls basketball state record for points in a career (4,897) and points in a season (1,466), among her many other records and accomplishments in her career as a Lady Ace.
Buss famously battled against rival Princeton's Jackie Young, who went on to become the No. 1 pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft to the Las Vegas Aces. Buss scored her Mount Carmel career-high in one of the fabled matchups, dropping 66 points in her senior campaign against a Young-led Princeton team.
She followed her success at Mount Carmel with an illustrious career at IU, scoring 2,364 points in her four seasons as a Hoosier and leading Indiana to the WNIT in her final season in Bloomington.
Professionally, Buss was invited to the Connecticut Sun's training camp, as well as signing a contract with Sporting Athens in Athens, Greece.
Session one on July 27 will be for 5th-8th grade boys and girls and will run from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Session two will shortly follow, and is targeted for high school age boys and girls, ranging from grades 9th-12th. Both sessions will be hosted at Lawrenceville High School. The cost for securing a spot in the camp is $50.
Attendees will receive training from Buss to help refine their basketball skills. Advice and pointers from a premiere athlete can be extremely helpful in a young person's developing game.
