TEUTOPOLIS — Teutopolis Junior High softball team got into the winning column last week with a 10-6 victory over Okaw Valley Middle School Timberwolves.
The Shoes connected for 9 hits on their home field. Riley Kemme had two hits, scored 3 runs and had an RBI to lead Teutopolis at the plate. Also clanging out hits or scores were Ella Wermert, Olivia Kemme, Chloe Probst, Mallory Bloemer, Mollie Ruholl, Kayleigh Zerrusen and Katelyn Frese, combing for 6 hits, 7 RBIs and 7 runs.
On the mound, Alyssa Tipton pitched for five innings, producing 7 strikeouts, allowing 7 hits and 4 runs. Tipton had two scoreless innings in the second and fourth. Sophia Martin was handed the ball in the sixth inning and had a strikeout and allowed only one hit and two runs.
The score was tied at 2-all at the end of the first inning. In the bottom of the second, Teutopolis took a 4-2 lead. Runs in the third and fifth by the Timberwolves evened the score at 4-4. Then Shoes batters took over with three runs each in the bottom of the fifth and sixth. Okaw Valley had two more scores in their half of the sixth but were shut out in the seventh.
Both teams had problems on defense with 10 total errors recorded in the game. But for the Shoes, there was much to celebrate with their first win of season.
