Mount Carmel and Mission softball’s Carli Merritt is competing in the All-American games in Viera, Fla., this week. Merritt led Mission with a .571 batting average prior to this past week’s USSSA Great Lakes National Softball Tournament.

VIERA, Fla. — Fresh off her team’s appearance in the USSSA Great Lakes Nationals in Evansville, Ind., Mount Carmel’s Carli Merritt is back on the road.

Merritt, who led the team with a .571 batting average entering the tournament, is competing in the All-American games in Viera, Fla.

She was chosen as a Direct Invite at the tryouts in West Lafayette, Ind.

While in Viera, Merritt qualified as one of the top four to compete in the skills challenge of base running. She also was named an All-American All Star. Those 20 selected from All-Regions in the United States will compete Friday in a game prior to the Pride team.

The tournament will mark the conclusion of the competitive softball summer for Merritt, on yet another remarkable stage.
