Martha J. (Ward) Throckmorton, 77, of Huntley, Ill. and Ocala, Fla. passed away peacefully in her sleep April 28, 2020 in Ocala, Fla. after a short battle with lymphoma.

She was born Feb. 1, 1943 in Centralia, Ill. to the late Emerick Victor (E.V.) Ward and Vera Pauline (Lipsey) Ward of Mt. Carmel and Princeton, Ind.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings John Michael Ward, Thomas J. Ward and Mary Lee Price.

At an early age Martha moved to Mt. Carmel from Centralia with her parents and four siblings where she graduated from St. Mary’s Grade School and Mt. Carmel High School in 1961. She attended Wabash Valley College before transferring to the Warner Brown School of Nursing in Eldorado, Ark.

She and John Throckmorton were united in marriage on December 19, 1964 in St. Louis, Mo. where he was completing his MBA at Washington University.

He survives along with four daughters; Pam (Pete) Petersen, Wendy (Rex) Barickman, Amy (Jason) Burris, Jean (Corey) Puyear of the Chicago, IL area, eight grandchildren; Nikki Mendoza, Andee Petersen, Billy Petersen, Emmit Barickman, Danny Burris, Katie Burris, Joey Puyear, Josh Puyear.

Martha retired from Parkview School in Glen Ellyn, Ill. after serving in multiple roles for nearly 30 years. She was an avid golfer and part of the Ukulele group in the Stone Creek development in Ocala, Fla. A member of St. Mary’s church in Huntley, IL. she was a devoted christian and volunteered for several charities including St. Vincent DePaul, Stirrups and Strides, Brother’s Keeper, and St. Mary’s meals for funerals.

A devoted and beloved wife to her husband, John, she loved her four girls, adored her grandchildren, and was looking forward to the birth of her first great-granddaughter in July. She cherished her surviving sisters, Judy Dirksen of Glendora, Calif. and Rachael Barlett of Carbondale, Ill. and her many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

Martha will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
