John S. “Sammy” Carwile, Sr., 79, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019 at his residence. He was born on August 4, 1940 in Evansville, Indiana, the son of John and Mildred (Beard) Carwile. He was married to Janis Faye Carrol who preceded him in death. John worked in the carpentry business for many years operating the business known as Cummings and Carwile. He had a love for animals of all kind. Over the years he even raised many different exotic animals. He greatly enjoyed being outdoors. John was fond of western movies, in particular, those which starred John Wayne. He loved his family and his grandbabies held a very special place in his heart. John will be missed by all who knew him. John will be remembered by his four sons, Dwayne (Mary Beth) Carwile of Allendale, IL, Kent Carwile of Evansville, IN, Johnnie (Sonya) Carwile of Ashland, IL, Allen (Chris) Carwile of Allendale, IL; daughter, Cheryl (Chuck) Tewell of Louisville, KY; twenty grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, David (Kathy) Carwile, Robert (Rosilee) Carwile; four sisters, Debbie (Bob) Hall, Annie (Rodger) Miller, Lucille (Bob) Rusche, Peggy (Sonny) McCullough; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Sondra Burton; brothers, Thomas Carwile, Jim Cummings; and sister, Dolly Carwile. Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 15, 2019 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 16, 2019 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Hodgson officiating.
