MOUNT CARMEL — Wabash General Hospital's Downhill Derby car remains undefeated for a fourth straight year after several close races on Saturday.

Driver Nikki Woods defended her championship title during the fourth annual Wabash Cannonball Downhill Derby sponsored by the Mount Carmel Kiwanis Club, keeping the record perfect for the WGH car.

In the double elimination style event, WGH defeated Wabash Container Corporation to take the adult championship title, and went on to face the kid champion Stiles-Walker in the grand championship race. Stiles-Walker came close, but the WGH ambulance-style car picked up speed near the end of the course.

Race organizer Dan Schonert gave WGH CEO and President Jay Purvis a congratulatory handshake, despite the fact that the State Farm version 3.0 car could not surpass the hospital's legendary car. Schonert said in an earlier interview that it is becoming everyone's goal to beat Woods in the WGH car.

Notable car designs included the wheelbarrow driven by Jerry White, a pair of teeth driven by Comprehensive Dental Care's Bryce Walker and one built to look like a red Lego. Over 15 total cars competed in the 2017 event held in conjunction with Ribberfest.
