Two Aces named to Toyota Classic All-Tournament Team

Mount Carmel sophomore guard Maya Smith was one of two Aces named to the Toyota Classic All-Tournament Team. Joining Smith, Mount Carmel senior Austin Rager. Smith averaged 14.7 ppg in the tournament and Rager averaged 20 ppg.

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. -- The two Mount Carmel High School basketball teams wrapped up the first halves of their season in the annual Toyota Classic and two Aces were honored for their strong play in the Classic.

Representing Mount Carmel on the boys team, senior Austin Rager. Rager had an exceptional Classic, averaging 20 points per game through their three games. Rager notably scored 30 points against Princeton, the champions of the tournament. The boys team finished the tournament 2-1, with victories over Gibson Southern and North Posey.

For the girls team, sophomore Maya Smith averaged 14.7 ppg over the three-game stretch. Smith's tournament-high total came against North Posey in their final game, with the sophomore floor general scoring 17 points in their rout of North Posey. The Lady Aces finished the classic 1-2, their lone win coming in their final game over North Posey.

The entire tournament team for the boys -- Evansville Christian's Tyler Shannon, Gibson Southern's Dawson Witte, Mount Carmel's Austin Rager, North Posey's John Ricketts, Wood Memorial's Cam Saulmon and Paxon Bartley, and Princeton's Jurrien Ballard and Zach Dove.

The girls all-tournament team: Princeton's Reaghan Page, Gibson Southern's Meredith Raley and Tabby Klem, Wood Memorial's Sydney Lamar and Chloe Mowery, Mount Carmel's Maya Smith, North Posey's Haley Wilson and Mount Vernon's Libby Steinhart.
