Aces knock off Hamilton County

Mount Carmel won Monday’s play-in game over Hamilton County, 8-4, in a Class 2A baseball regional in McLeansboro.

Aden Gill was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Logan Durham finished 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.

Evan Kieffer finished 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI while Kaleb Applebey finished 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Adam Stoneberger finished with an RBI and a run scored.

Kieffer picked a complete game allowing eight hits, four runs, striking out five and walking three.

The Aces (9-15) will take on No. 2 seed Harrisburg Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in a semifinal game at the Hamilton County Regional.

Jr. Aces compete in Carterville

Zeke Hadra placed eighth in the 200-Meter Dash. Luke Laws finished seventh in the Shot Put. Flynn Guard finished in sixth-place in the Hurdles while Taylor Singer brought home a second-place showing in the High Jump.

Aces win two matches

Mount Carmel picked up a pair of wins last week over Carmi-White County before falling, 5-2, in high school tennis action.

Gary Harness defeated Colton Yates at No. 2 singles, 10-4. Then in doubles action, Jacob Whetstone and Chris Whetstone defeated the Carmi team of Yates and Dylan Courty, 10-8, in one doubles action.

At No. 1 singles, Carmi-White County’s Courty defeated Jacob Whetstone, 10-7. At No. 3 singles, Lane Camp defeated Chris Whetstone. Copper Craig knocked off Brock Plassman, 10-3, at No. 4 singles and at No. 5 singles, Cole Carter defeated Logan Baker, 10-5.

In the other doubles match, Carter and Camp defeated Plassman and Harness, 10-0.

OCC hosting Little League camps

Olney Central College Baseball is hosting Summer Little League Camps for youth ages 6-13.

Session I will meet June 4-6 and June 18-20, with rain dates of June 7 and 21. Session II will be offered July 16-18 and 23-25, with rain dates of July 19 and 26, respectively. All camps will meet from 9 a.m. to noon at OCC’s Dennis Conley Field.

The cost is $60 for one or $100 for both weeks in the chosen session. Session I registrations must be received by Friday, June 1 and Session II registration is due Friday, July 13. Late registration will be accepted the day of the camp with an additional $10 charge.

Students will need to bring a bat, glove, helmet and shoes to camp.
