MOUNT VERNON -- Facing just around a week break in action, Mount Carmel's baseball team added a last minute game, a road game against Mount Vernon (Ill.) on Wednesday.
The Rams stumped the Aces, limiting Mount Carmel's bats to just one hit in Mount Vernon's 7-1 victory over Mount Carmel on Wednesday evening.
Junior pitcher Cade Newkirk took the mound for the Aces as the starter and pitched a solid outing. Newkirk threw four innings of four hit, four run baseball while fanning four batters.
Meanwhile, Mount Carmel's batters were kept off guard by the Mount Vernon pitchers. The Rams limited the Aces to just one hit in the game, but did earn five walks. Their lone RBI on the day came off the bat of junior Connor Lane.
Senior Ashton Walker and sophomore Kaleb Applebey succeeded Newkirk in the game and threw a combined two innings, allowing three runs and four hits in the final two innings of the game.
Mount Carmel (4-4) will look to revive their bats in their next game, a Friday home game against April 12 at 6 p.m. Additionally, they'll travel to Hamilton County for a doubleheader, beginning against Gallatin County at 1 p.m., followed by a game against Hamilton County at 3 p.m.
