MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Lady Aces opened the season with a 47-28 victory Monday evening against Lawrenceville in girls high school basketball action.

Mount Carmel led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter before opening up a 20-15 lead at the break.

Eight players with the Lady Aces scored in the game. Leading the way was Rylie Webb. She finished with a game-high 14 points. She knocked down a pair of 3s in the fourth quarter to help Mount Carmel extend its victory over the Indians.

Alli Kell had six field goals for 12 points. She had six points in the second quarter and added two more field goals in the third.

Katelyn Higginbotham finished with 10 points to lead Lawrenceville.

Jada Smith and Haley Wright each finished with 5 points for the Aces. Maya Smith had 4 points, while Allie McPherson finished with 3. In addition, Madi Smith and Taylor Roosevelt both chipped in two points, respectively.

The jayvee team is back in action Nov. 27 at Flora.
