OWENSVILLE — Jewel Maxine (Bush) Newman, 94, passed away Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.

She was born April 28, 1923 in Gibson County to William Orville and Brittie Ethel (Bowman) Bush.

Maxine was a graduate of Owensville High School class of 1941 and William Robert Newman on June 22, 1946. Together, they raised three children. She worked and retired from Emge Packing Company, Inc. She also owned The Smart Shop, where she sold and altered women’s apparel.

She was Christian and loved our Lord. She was a member of Owensville First Christian Church.

She was a wonderful wife and mother. She loved her family with all her heart. She loved to cook, bake, sew and make gifts for her family and friends. She was blessed to have a green thumb and loved tending to her flowers.

Survivors include her children, Jane Ann Mowery, William Jon “Billy” (Herma) Newman and Leisa (Brent) Bosecker; sister, Margaret Yeager, six grandchildren, Kevin Mowery, Janna Easton, Brittany and Colton Bosecker, Heather Wolfe and Ivy Grace Newman; five great-grandchildren, Justin and Peyton Grimm, Connor, Chloe and Christian Mowery; one great-great-granddaughter, Crimson Mowery; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William Robert Newman in 2004, son-in-law, Ronald E. Mowery; siblings, Marcelle Dierlam, Vera Lucille Bush, Alice Strickland, James, Robert, John and William O. Bush, Jr.

Service is Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Holders Funeral Home with Bart Newton officiating, burial in Liberty Cemetery in Cynthiana.

Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and is scheduled again Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service hour.
