Wabash County Coroner

Democrat Shaun Keepes defeated Republican Larry Hodgson for the Wabash County coroner seat on Tuesday night.

Keepes maintained an early lead over the incumbent and finished with 3,081 votes, or 57 percent. Hodgson had 2,334 votes.

Hodgson had held the coroner position for the past 12 years.

Wabash County Commissioner

Republican Rob Dean was elected for his second term as a Wabash County Commissioner with 3,306 votes over Democrat Charles Sanders' 2,005 votes.

Dean also maintained an early lead and finished with 62 percent of the votes cast.

Sanders was ousted from the position by Dean in 2010.

Facilities Sales Tax

The 1 percent facilities sales tax passed with 62 percent of the votes. The tax will be used to upgrade and maintain Wabash County schools' buildings.

The tax will go into effect next summer, raising Wabash County's sales tax from 6.25 percent to 7.25 percent. Area schools are expecting to see the funds come in next November.

State & Federal Results

Wabash County starkly contrasted with the northern half of the state in terms of their presidential and senate votes.

Although Hillary Clinton won Illinois' 20 electoral votes, 74 percent of Wabash County voters picked Donald Trump for president.

Sixty-six percent of voters chose Mark Kirk over the elected Tammy Duckworth for the U.S. Senate.

Voter Turnout

Out of all voters registered in Wabash County, almost 64 percent voted, which amounts to 5,526 people.
