MOUNT CARMEL — Mount Carmel Police Department Detective Sgt. Ryan Turner reported Friday morning that city and Indiana State Police, Wabash County Sheriff's Office and Wabash General Hospital planned to participate in a school emergency scenario at the Mt. Carmel Elementary School Friday from 1-2:30 p.m.

A second school emergency scenario is scheduled for St. Mary's School on Monday from about 1-2:30 p.m.

The notices to the public come in the wake of the most recent school shooting reported in Florida. "The Mt. Carmel Police Department and the Sheriff's Department are dedicated to the safety of our children. Together with the Illinois State Police we are continuously looking for ways to better protect our school and respond to a school shooting should one occur in our area. We are currently looking at training into the next school year and we are hoping to include other emergency service to better our response," said Turner.
