WASHINGTON – Congressman John Shimkus confirmed the USDA's award of a $30,000 Rural Development grant to the Wabash Valley Water Commission.

The funds will be used for preliminary engineering and environmental reports in the commission's exploration of a regional water plant for most of Wabash and Edwards County.

The commission represents communities of Mount Carmel, Albion, Grayville and Keensburg. Each individual system has their own issues, from aging infrastructure to water quality. The grant will enable the newly formed entity the information needed to determine the best alternative to provide potable water to more than 11,000 residents in the service area.
