WABASH COUNTY – Wabash County Commissioners approved a bicentennial anniversary ceremony Monday, Dec. 4.

The ceremony will take place at noon. The bicentennial flag will be flown below the Illinois state flag to kick off the bicentennial year. Officials said the flag has been received.

Wabash County Singers have volunteered to sing the state song during the ceremony, said Claudia Dant, Illinois Bicentennial local liaison and board president of Wabash County Museum.

She said the new proclamation should be read and adopted as part of the festivities.

In other business at Monday's board of commissioners meeting, County Clerk Janet Will said voter ID cards have been issued and mailed out, though some have been returned. Those who did not receive one are asked to contact the County Clerk's office. Filing for registration to vote in the primary is from Nov. 27 to Dec. 5, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Citizens of Wabash County are urged to pay their tax installments by Friday, Dec. 22, at 5 p.m., because the final legal day to pay is a holiday.

An upgraded phone system has been installed in the county offices and all officers at the commissioners meeting reported the phones working.

"They were installed on Nov. 9," said Will, who added that staff are still working out the kinks of the new system. Officials said the only phone not replaced by a new one was on the wall between the courtroom and judge's chamber.
