I am a home care provider with the state’s program to care for seniors and people with disabilities.

Because I am able to care for my client, he is is able to happily live at home instead of more costly nursing home care. If Gov. Rauner is really concerned about saving the state money, isn’t it more sensible to support the home care program?

Most of us take for granted many of the chores I am able to do for my consumer--grocery shopping, bathing, grooming and dressing. I take him to his appointments and even take him fishing just to see the smile on his face.

These drastic cuts will also devastate the home care workforce dedicated to caring for our seniors, some of the most vulnerable in our communities. Many seniors live alone because they do not have family. In many cases, the home care provider is the only “family” they have.

My client is just one of the tens of thousands of seniors and disabled Illinoisans who are crying out for the opportunity to live independently in their own home. They are crying out for Rauner to hear their voices.
